FLSA (Virtual)

March 14 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Description:

Over the past two-plus years, public sector employers have seen a significant increase in attention from state and federal agencies overseeing wage and hour laws, such as the United States Department of Labor and the Department of Workforce Development. This increased attention is here to stay for the foreseeable future with an upcoming federal election and with overturn of prior administrations fully complete at relevant state and federal agencies. To stay ahead of potential issues, such as audits or wage and hour claims, public sector employers need to develop and maintain a solid understanding of state and federal wage and hour laws, such as how to appropriately designate a position as exempt vs. non-exempt, the impact of an improper designation, and common travel time issues.

This one-hour training is designed to help supervisors develop a greater understanding of:

  • How to analyze a position for exempt vs. non-exempt status under the Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Practices to minimize overtime liability should an employee claim they are improperly classified as exempt.
  • Common positions of employment that become subject to a classification dispute.
  • The legal and practical impacts of improperly designating an employee as exempt, and employer actions that can accidentally undo a proper classification.
  • Common travel time issues under the FLSA, such as travel to and from offsite trainings.
